The Storm King School

Program of Study

The Storm King School curriculum is college preparatory, placing an emphasis upon a well-rounded education. As members of the learning community, students become increasingly involved in making decisions related to their education. Each student is given the opportunity to develop his/her own talents and independence. This development occurs in an environment characterized by a sense of self-worth, responsibility, and humor, combined with the structure needed to succeed. A close relationship between students and faculty fosters a community atmosphere conducive to learning in the classrooms, on the stage, in the dorms, and on the athletic fields.

Athletics

We play games to win. This is certainly true of every athletic program. Yet, victory is hollow unless achieved with honor. So it is that at The Storm King School we develop character through conduct and integrity of performance. By focusing on effort, and developing the courage in each student to takes risks and make mistakes, we are redefining what it means to be a winner.

We stress the process rather than the result. Our athletes should know their potential for greatness, yet understand their humanity in committing errors. Thus we can help our students gain self-respect. Moreover, by realizing accomplishments on the playing field, they will know how to seek success in other areas, such as academics. Storm King athletes know the purpose of a game and that each must practice and internalize sportsmanship.

The Storm King School fields twelve teams in eight sports, in both male and female as well as co-ed teams. All our students must participate in one interscholastic sport during each year.
